Two West Michigan performers will power up their artistry, voice and vision July 12-14 when they bring a multi-sensory performance to the Wellspring Theater stage at the Epic Center in Kalamazoo.
This inaugural performance, called "Word Weavers," launches the partnership of Gabriel Giron and Kirk Latimer, who have formed an artistic collaboration called "Kinetic Affect."
For this first performance, Giron and Latimer, increasingly familiar on the local and regional poetry circuit, have joined with other local artists to add depth and drama to their words.
Whether they are screaming about the gang mentality of today's politicos, sharing laughs and reminiscing about childhood memories, or railing against the pain of losing friends to suicide, Giron and Latimer have an ability to speak across the increasingly large generation gap, addressing critical issues in a powerful way that entertains and engages.
Giron's and Latimer's words will be heightened through the talents of Michael Miller of Wellspring/Cori Terry and Dancers, Levi Strickland, Blue Dahlia guitarist/bassist, and vocalist Jamal Larkins. This collaboration of five diverse young men - Native American, Hispanic, African American, gay, and a strawberry blond - channels the American male voice in a way rarely heard.
Tickets are $15 general admission / $10 with student ID. Tickets will be available at the door. The content is suitable for students, age 13 and up.
